Initial Pinch PotsHow do you make a pinch pot?
A pinch pot is made by starting with a moist sphere of clay. You start the pot by placing your thumbs in the center, creating a small indent. You slowly push your thumbs inward, making the hole in the center larger and larger. Once the desired size is reached, you simply stop looking in. What makes a successful pinch pot? A successful pinch pot is all about thickness. The pot must be the same thickness throughout, even on the bottom. The second pinch pot is a square, but I was able to retain a constant thickness throughout. |
Organic Pinch Pot
With the implementation of my newly learned "scratch and attach" method, I was able to significantly improve my organic pinch pot over my initial work. I based this work off a brain coral, found in the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. The picture below shows my inspiration. I was inspired by coral after Scuba Diving last year. I think that the copperhead over blue float glaze outlines the many small coils that make up the work as a whole. The additions coming out of the base pot are other corals found in the sea.
