Reflection
What was your favorite project?
My favorite project this year was the monster mug. I really liked this project because we had a great deal of creative freedom to attach whatever we wanted. In comparison to the coil pots this year, I was given a great deal of creative freedom. We also did this at the end of the semester, as my "scratch and attach" skills were at their peak. I was able to create the nose hairs and teeth very well. These abilities and features made the monster mug my favorite project.
A time you struggled?
When making the exposed coil cup this semester I made it a goal of mine to make the coils as small as possible, I wanted my work to be very thin. I was able to easily make the small coils, but I found it nearly impossible to make them stand up. I overcame this by slowly attaching each single coil while keeping a wooden object inside the cup to support the think coils overnight. If i had not been able to do this, I don't think I could have created such a thin pot.
How have you grown?
I had never done any ceramics before this class, and I was pleasantly surprised. I never considered myself an artsy person, but I was surprised by my skills. My favorite new skills that I learned was scratch and attach. I think it is very cool that you can make two pieces of clay into now with a little water and a knife. Overall, this was a very interesting class that pleasantly surprised me.
